There’s an old saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” Same principles apply here with hockey. When we come upon a team or line that is playing at such a high level we choose that team and line. In other words, its called, “eating the chalk”.
Quick refresher, chalk is a player or team that the entire world knows is going to perform well. In turn, high ownership. In most cases we want to stray away from high owned players or teams right? Be different. Go with the contrarian choice. Yes and no.
In a large GPP being different pays off. In cash games chalk is your best friend. It’s all about what you’re trying to do and what contests you play. At this point this shouldn’t be news to you. Hence the refresher.
In my first few days here with you on DFS Cheat Sheet I’ve mentioned the Rangers, Jets and Hurricanes a few times. They haven’t broken yet so there’s nothing to fix! Let’s dig in!
I love this power play unit! Carolina is #9 overall so far this season. They’ve scored 32 goals on the power play. That’s 21.3% of the time! These guys are humming along with the man advantage. Jaccob Slavin is the anchor here at +14.
CHALK of the day!
Boston 1 & PP1
Listen, the Boston Bruins are one of the best teams in the NHL. It gets more and more ridiculous the more you dig in. Bruins are #3 in power play goals (42) #3 in power play percentage (26.3%) #3 in killing penalties (83.6%) and 6th overall in goals scored (166). So its only right every time they play you want a piece of their top line, which also doubles as their #1 power play unit. These three men are also quite expensive and deservedly so. Some days you have to eat the chalk. Today is one of those days. The Golden Knights are in the bottom half of penalty kill (97.8%) and at the top of penalty minutes so far this season (193). It’s a perfect storm!
