MMA TAKEDOWN
UFC FIGHT NIGHT 159
SEPTEMBER 20TH 2019
BY MARK STINE @DFSBEERPACK
Hello MMA fans are you ready! This weekend, we have a 12-fight card in Mexico City. The main GPP is a $15 buy-in and 25K to 1st place with a total of 125K being paid out. Let’s dig in!
Claudio Puelles $9,000 vs Marcos Mariano $7,200
Cash- Puelles is playable in all formats.
Preferred play is Puelles. Puelles is a very strong grappler and will look to get this fight to the mat. He hasn’t fought in over a year which is considering for sure, but I think he will take this one by way of his grappling. Mariano in his UFC debut suffered a 1st round submission loss to Lando Vannata. He is a kickboxer and he will want to stand and strike, he is a kick boxing world champion. He is a wild striker at times and this will get him taken down to the mat.
Pick- Claudio Puelles via 1st round Submission
Sijara Eubanks $9,100 vs Bethe Correia $7,100
Cash- Avoid ( Eubanks is playable if you want but risky seems to always have weight cut issues)
Preferred play is Eubanks. She has very nice ground and pound, both of her pre-UFC wins came by way of ground and pound. Correia has only fought five times in four years. Her last three fights were a draw, head kick knockout loss and a submission loss by way of armbar.
Pick- Sijara Eubanks via 3rd round TKO
Vinicius Moreira $8,300 vs Paul Craig $7,900
Cash- Avoid
Preferred play is Moreira. Moreira will look to get this fight to the mat. He is a far larger man than Craig so I thing he will take him down where he wraps up a submission win. Craig does have a shot here its UFC anything can happen, but I think Moreira top game will be to much for Craig.
Pick- Vinicius Moreira via 1st round Submission
Sergio Pettis $9,300 vs Tyson Nam $6,900
Cash- Avoid
Preferred play is Pettis. Pettis will try and frustrate Nam, he will be trying to snap his two fight losing streak. He is an very good striker and I think he will manage to rack up enough volume for a decision. Nam does have power in his hands tho, he could land and TKO Pettis with his power. He is a live dog for sure. So I think Pettis wins this one, but I’m picking Nam.
Pick- Tyson Nam via 2nd round TKO
Angela Hill $8,500 vs Ariane Carnelossi $7,700
Cash- Avoid
Preferred play is Carnelossi. Carnelossi has had a lot of fighting success in multiple Brazilian promotions. She has knockout eight opponents and submitted one. She does have power. Hill has lost 3-4 fights this is a must win. She is a good striker and has nice speed, but I think she gets tagged in this one.
Pick- Ariane Carnelossi via Unanimous Decision
Kyle Nelson $8,600 vs Polo Reyes $7,600
Cash- Avoid
Preferred play is Reyes. Reyes is a boxer purely, he is dangerous with big power. He has been knocked out three of his last four. Nelson is a very solid grappler and seems like a well- rounded fighter. You should have both sides of this fight my lean is Reyes. I either one has paths to victory tho.
Pick- Polo Reyes via 2nd round TKO
Joe’s Quinonez $8,700 vs Carlos Huachin $7,500
Cash- Avoid
Preferred play is Quinonez. Quinonez was the runner-up on The Ultimate Fighter “Latin America”. He is a good striker and very strong grappler and will look for takedowns. Huachin is powerful and has nice hand speed, he is very aggressive early. He is not a very good grappler.
Pick- Jose Quinonez via Unanimous Decision
Martin Bravo $8,100 vs Steven Peterson $8,100
Cash- Bravo is playable.
Preferred play is Bravo. I think this is a very close fight, but I will lean to Bravo in his home of Mexico. He is making his return after a lengthy layoff. He is a pressure fighter, his striking is ok he does have 4 KO/TKO’S. Peterson is also a pressure fighter and a very solid grappler. He has 4 KO/TKO’S in his career.
Pick- Martin Bravo via Unanimous Decision
Irene Aldana $9,400 vs Vanessa Melo $6,800
Cash- Aldana is playable.
Preferred play is Aldana. Aldana is an ultra- aggressive fighter that will push the pace with heavy combinations. She has won fight of the night twice. Melo is making her UFC debut on short notice. She is a ok striker and seems to be a solid grappler.
Pick- Irene Aldana via Unanimous Decision
Asker Askarov $8,800 vs Brandon Moreno $7,400
Cash- Askarov is playable.
Preferred play is Askarov. Askarov is a Monster. He is a very powerful pressure striker, looking to take his opponents to the ground where he dominates with his submission game. Moreno is a good fighter with solid striking. He is making his return in his home country.
Pick- Asker Askarov via 1st round Submission
Alexa Grasso $8,400 vs Carla Esparza $7,800
Cash- Both are playable.
Preferred play is Grasso. Grasso is coming off a very strong performance, a boxing heavy beatdown of Karolina Kowalkiewicz. Esparza won a decision against Jandiroba in her last match. My lean in cash is Grasso.
Pick- Alexa Grasso via 2nd round TKO
Yair Rodriguez $8,200 vs Jeremy Stephens $8,000
Cash- Stackable.
Preferred play is Rodriguez. This fight should be an exciting one. It’s been almost a year since we saw Rodriguez knockout Korean Zombie with an elbow with one second remaining in the 5th round. Rodriguez is a solid striker and ok wrestler. I think he will look to stand and exchange in this fight. Going to the mat with Stephens could pose a lot of trouble for him. Stephen will come out guns a blazing, he has solid power in his hands. Have both sides of this fight, I’ll probably be 70/30 Rodriguez.
Pick- Yair Rodriguez via Unanimous Decision
