Detroit Lions, a Birthright

Detroit Lions, a Birthright
8/22/20
Chris Robin https://twitter.com/DetroitBeastie

The Detroit Lions. Where do I start? How can I tone this down and keep it classy? Being classy isn’t the problem, toning it down is!

I’ve racked my brain for ideas. In turn keeping this fresh and new. While the Lions are never fresh or new. It’s the same recycled nonsense every season. As a life long Detroiter and Lions fan safe to say I’ve seen it all.

So let’s fast forward to the 2020 season. Once again the spring and summer is littered with the same buzz words and optimistic tones. “Matthew Stafford looks good!” Or how about this one, “The Lions rookie running back is strong and making an impression on his coaches!” I can set my watch by these comments and lazy observations.

“The defensive coordinator is excited about the young athletic core!” Yeah I know, we get it. To me, its just a copy and paste job. The city of Detroit has remained apologetically behind this organization through thick and thin. Almost to the point where it becomes harmful. Ownership seemingly doesn’t care, they plug and play the same mediocre talent year in and year out. After a certain point during the season the coaching staff settles for, “that was fine.” or, “that is good enough!” While the city and it’s fanfare are clamoring for change.

The definition of insanity, as I’ve understood it, is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The Lions should have that hanging in their locker room. On a plaque they can slap above the locker room door as they take the field.

You might ask yourself, “Geeze this Chris guy such is a jerk!” or even think, “Is this guy even a fan of the Detroit Lions?” Let me answer these self imposed questions for you. I love my city so much! To a point where it hurts. I’d give anything to see the city of Detroit succeed. I will never apologize for being from Detroit. I will never apologize for loving the Detroit Lions.

The city of Detroit has made me Chris. It’s taught me lessons, it’s showed me respect and it’s shaped me. So when asked to briefly give my opinion on the Lions 2020 outlook one thing was clear. It’s not about the 2020 season. It’s about a lifetime commitment to the city of Detroit and a decision to support the Lions at all times. Being passionate about sports and the Lions wasn’t a decision I made. It’s a birth right here in the city.

So to answer the question and give my opinions on the 2020 Detroit Lions, regardless of their record at seasons end I will be here. I will be here wearing my Lions hat and Lions hoodie supporting them every step of the way!

Hot Pucking Stacks 8/20

Hot Pucking Stacks 8/20
8/20/2020
Chris Robin https://twitter.com/DetroitBeastie

Today is an odd occurrence. Actually not all that odd. Just very exciting!

The Stanley Cup Playoffs are starting to take shape! A few teams have been eliminated while a few others are on the brink.

Columbus, Carolina and Arizona have all been eliminated. While Montréal, Washington, Calgary and St. Louis all face elimination their next game.

Which brings us to tonight! The Islanders are up 3-1 in their series with the Capitals. While The Dallas Stars are looking to move on and end Calgary’s season tonight!

At this point my for love and excitement for hockey is very clear! It gets even more intense during an elimination game! NYI are up 3-1 in their series with WSH. DAL is up 3-2 in their respective series with CGY!

NYI (2.5) @ WSH (2.6) O/U 5.0

DAL (2.6) @ CGY (2.5) O/U 5.0

As you can see above the Caps and Flames are playing for their playoff lives tonight. Teams with nothing to lose and their back against the wall are very dangerous!

My DFS bread and butter has always been small two game slates! Enough fooling around! Here’s what I’m into tonight!

WASHINGTON 1

Alexander Ovechkin L1 & PP1 & PP2
Tom Wilson L1 & PP1
Evgeny Kuznetsov L1 & PP1

WASHINGTON Power Play 1

Alexander Ovechkin PP1 & PP2 & L1
Tom Wilson PP1 & L1
Evgeny Kuznetsov PP1 & L1
TJ Oshie PP1 & L2
John Carlson (D) PP1 & L1

NEW YORK ISLANDERS 1

Anthony Beavillier L2 & PP1
Brock Nelson L2 & PP1
Josh Bailey L2 & PP1

The Islanders have been a favorite stack for me all season and especially in the playoffs. Then are mean, gritty and very well coached! Barry Trotz is an outstanding hockey coach. He knows how to win and he has the respect of his players in turn, they play hard for him! Varlamov has been fantastic in goal too. He’s had a sub 2 GAA this postseason.

Washington is a championship team. Ovi is one of the best hockey players of all time and more times then not, the best player on the ice each night. The Caps are down right now but not out! This team can get hot and when they do it’s bad news for New York. WSH can score in bunches! Look for the Capitals to be on fire! Like their season depends on it. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a 4-1 or 5-2 final tonight!

CALGARY 2

Andrew Manginpane L2 & PP2
Mikael Backlund L2 & PP2
Tobias Rieder L2

DALLAS Power Play 2

Corey Perry PP2 & L3
Radek Faksa PP2 & L4
Denis Gurianov PP2 & L2
Roope Hintz PP2 & L3
Miro Hesitance (D) PP2 & L2

Seven of their ten games, DAL v CGY has had five or less goals. Their last three games have averaged 4.6 goals. I have a weird feeling about this one tonight. Dallas can win and move on. Meaning it’s win or go home for the Flames tonight. I can’t stop thinking of a slow paced, grinding dump the puck and squirm in the corners all night kind of game. I love CGY2 tonight given the fact these kids only play on average 13-16 minutes a night. Going to be long and physical game. CGY2 gets major ice time tonight!

Looking at the Dallas side of things I like the idea of their second power play unit. In turn we’re also getting exposure to three of their four lines. I honestly don’t expect many goals scored at even strength tonight. This is going to be my kind of game! DAL sneaks one or two in on the PP tonight! Their SECOND unit!

Make sure to keep an eye out for an updated line closer to lock! 8p EST!

During a conversation in group chat on social media last night I became aware of a few things…

First, there are large groups of people watching hockey for the first time and really enjoying themselves!

Second, this same group of people are now getting involved with NHL DFS!

Third, Hot Puck has been fantastic but its also been hit and miss. Which is typical for a DFS article. Only thing I can do is review the research and establish ideas to the best of my ability.

Forth and last, the support and creative ideas floating around all social media outlets has been uplifting and tremendous! I’ve always been happy and supportive of others! Especially when it comes to fantasy sports! So thank you! Thank you to everyone who reads Hot Puck and thank you for the continued support!

PHI (2.7) @ MTL (2.4)
CGY (2.5) @ DAL (2.7)
WSH (2.6) @ NYI (2.6)
CHI (2.5) @ LVK (3.2)

There are a ton of game scripts and playoff narratives today and tonight! Buckle up, lace up the skates and lets hit the ice!

DALLAS 1

Jamie Benn L1 & PP1
Tyler Seguin L1 & PP1
Alexander Radulov L1 & PP1

This series is averaging 6.25 total goals a game. Only makes sense to have a piece of DAL1 here tonight. Series is tied 2-2 headed into game 5 this afternoon. You all know I’ve been into CGY but tonight the better team will prevail, the Dallas Stars!

PHILADELPHIA 3

James van Riemsdyk L3 & PP2
Derek Grant L3
Nicolas Aube-Kubel L3 & PP2
I’m all over PHI tonight! MTL is a great team but they are on the brink here and the Flyers go big and push MTL closer the edge.

NEW YORK ISLANDERS 2

Anthony Beauvillier L2 & PP1
Brock Nelson L2 & PP1
Josh Bailey L2 & PP1

For Washington it’s win or go home tonight. The Islanders have been fantastic and fun to watch! Tonight we see a tight one, 2-1 or even 1-0! Way under the total implied goal total of 5. To me, this is gut call and I’m staying away from this game. Just going to watch and enjoy it!

LAS VEGAS 1

Max Pacioretty L1 & PP1
Mark Stone L1 & PP1
Chandler Stephenson L1

LAS VEGAS 2

Las Vegas Golden Knights

Jonathon Marchessault L2 & PP1
William Karlsson L2 & PP1
Reilly Smith L2 & PP2

Chicago took a game in this series keeping their postseason alive but it’s all over tonight folks. Vegas is just too good. They are fun to watch and peppered Crawford with 49 shots last time out. Vegas is projected around 3.5 goals tonight and I love the over! Take your pick of their lines! Cant go wrong!

WASHINGTON 2

Jakub Vrana L2 & PP2
Lars Eller L2 & PP2
T.J. Oshie L2 & PP1

I know I know told you I wasn’t too interested in this game offensively. This is just the classic case of gaining leverage and/or a back up plan in GPP’s tonight. WSH2 is cheaply priced aside from Oshie but the exposure to both power play units covers our butts on the off chance the Caps do score 2+ times.

WASHINGTON 3

Carl Hagelin L3
Ilya Kovachuk L3 & PP2
Brian Pinho L3

See above!

Chris Robin https://twitter.com/DetroitBeastie

Feels good to be back in the baseball saddle! I’ve always been open and honest with all of you. So let me be open and honest now.

Everyday I write my NHL DFS article and in the afternoon I do a live broadcast with the guys from DFSCheatSheet. So in turn I told myself, “no need to actually write Crush Spot!” cause I’m able to go live and discuss it.

That’s lazy of me. I apologize! We all look for ways to lessen the load. I have plenty of little tips and tricks and this shouldn’t be one of them. I’m committed to writing and bringing you Hot Pucking Stacks daily as well as Crush Spot!

Aside from hockey we have an eleven game schedule for baseball. Broken down into four separate slates on Fanduel and three slates on Draftkings.

FANDUEL                                    DRAFTKINGS

Main (11) 7:05p EST                   Main (11) 7:05p EST
Express (2) 8:10p                       Turbo (4) 7:05p
Late Night (5) 9:05p                  Night (5) 9:05p
After Hours (3) 9:40p

C/1B – Travis d’Arnaud ATL v WSH (FD-$3,300)(DK-$2,500)

2B – Johan Camargo ATL v WSH (FD-$2,500)(DK-$3,500)

3B – Justin Turner LAD v SEA (FD-$3.100)(DK-$4,800)

SS – Corey Seager LAD v SEA (FD-$3,500)(DK-$4,800)

OF – Adam Duvall ATL v WSH (FD-$2,200)(DK-$3,700)

OF – Joc Pederson LAD v SEA (FD-$2,700)(DK-$4,300)

OF – Mookie Betts LAD v SEA (FD-$4,300)(DK-$5,900)

UTIL – Fernando Tatis Jr. SD @ TEX (FD-$4,500)(DK-$5,400)

UTIL – Max Muncy LAD v SEA (FD-$3,200)(DK-$4,800)

I’m sure you’ve noticed by now I plan on attacking WSH RHP Anibal Sanchez. Who has been hit hard his first three times out. 9.69 ERA in 13IP with a high 2.15 WHIP! Batters facing him have a slugging percentage of .597, hard hit rate sits at 39.6% while the exit velocity off opposing bats is 91.7%. Look, the Braves are going to be chalk but on the off chance people look past ATL in favor of LAD or CWS this is the play.

The second stack of the night is LAD v SEA and SP Justin Dunn. Chalkiest of the chalk. Which is ok! Dunn came to life his last time out in TEX. 6IP, only 2ER with a win AND QS! He’s walking into a buzz this evening at Dodger stadium.

Some these players may or may not play! Please double check before lock!

Don’t forget to check back later and closer to lock 7:05p EST! Or follow me on Twitter for updated lines before each contest locks!

Some slates are better then others. Some nights are more exciting then others. Last night was a home run!

That was then and this is now. Remember that saying?

TB (2.7) @ CBJ (2.3)
COL (2.9) @ ARZ (2.3)
BOS (2.7) @ CAR (2.5)
STL (2.8) @ VAN (2.5)

FANDUEL                            DRAFTKINGS

Main 3p EST                       Main (4) 3p EST
Late (2) 8p

TAMPA BAY 2

Alex Killorn L2 & PP1
Anthony Cirelli L2
Tyler Johnson L2 & PP2

So here’s the thing, CBJ only had 7 shots on goal in 40 minutes last time out. Easy money is on Tampa Bay tonight and I agree. As a DFS player this just screams, “be contrarian!” Stack CBJ? I’ve done sillier things.

COLORADO 1

Nathan Mackinnon L1 & PP1
Mikko Rantanen L1 & PP1
Gabriel Landeskog L1 & PP1

I only mentioned COL1 to get your attention! I’m way into Arizona tonight! You read that right! Stack ARZ and watch the points add up!

ARIZONA 4

Michael Grabner L4
Brad Richardson L4
Vinnie Hinostuoza L4

ARIZONA 1

Arizona Coyotes

Taylor Hall L1 & PP1
Derek Stepan L1 & PP1
Clayton Keller L1 & PP1

BONUS Coyote, Conor Garland L2 & PP2

I’m all in on ARZ tonight mainly cause I love the over of 5 goals.

ST. LOUIS 1

Ryan O’Reilly L1 & PP1
David Perron L1 & PP1
Jaden Schwartz L1 & PP1

ST. LOUIS 2

Brayden Schenn L1 & PP1
Tyler Bozak L2 & PP2
Oskar Sunqvist L2

The Blues showed me that tough nosed championship mentality last night winning in OT. Their defense got aggressive and they skated with purpose. I’m riding with the Blues tonight and fully expecting STL to be on fire! The entire game!

BOSTON 2

Jake DeBrusk L2 & PP1
David Krejci L2 & PP1
Ondrej Kase L2 & PP2

CAROLINA 3

Brock McGinn L3
Jordan Staal L3
Justin Williams L3 & PP1

CAROLINA 1

Carolina Hurricanes

Warren Foegele L1
Sebastian Aho L1 & PP1
Teuvo Teravainen L1 & PP1

Carolina has done well after a loss. The Bruins goalie, Tukka Rask, has left the bubble and it was a huge bummer for BOS. Carolina is talented and quite sharp! The Hurricanes will take advantage of the emotion tonight and stun BOS by a few goals.

Make sure to keep an eye out for an updated line closer to lock! After Hours! 3p EST!
